The Contingent Associate Buyer supports the procurement team for their assigned portfolio, ensuring optimal customer service on a temporary or project basis. This role requires daily interactions with suppliers, under the direction of full-time procurement staff, to guarantee the procurement of the correct quantity of finished goods or materials. The Contingent Associate Buyer assists in adjusting procurement plans based on reviews from supply planning and production scheduling. This role collaborates under the supervision of Supply Planners, Production Schedulers, Sourcing Customer Service, Incoming Inspection, and Accounts Payable teams.


Responsibilities:

  • Assist in maintaining master data set up in the transactional systems under the supervision of regular staff, including but not limited to: a) supplier lead time, b) lot size, c) buyer purchasing group.
  • Support in communicating forecast requirements to suppliers based on information from production schedulers and supply planning.
  • Help ensure all POs are placed according to the rules and assist in executing Order Confirmation from suppliers.
  • Serve as a supporting contact for suppliers, providing information based on current supply requirements as directed.
  • Work under the guidance of full-time staff to support cross-functional teams in initiatives and business process improvements.
  • Assist in preparing reports and represent the purchasing function during meetings as a support member.
  • Support in raising ideas for improvements.
  • Ensure very good communication with supply planning, production schedulers, and customer service when delivery issues may appear, under supervision.
  • Assist in reviewing back order and safety stock health to manage deliveries from suppliers.
  • Support point of contact for Accounts Payable for invoice resolution (e.g., price mismatch, quantity mismatch) under supervision.
  • Perform other activities as indicated by the supervisor within the scope of contingent employment.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business/Engineering/Supply Chain Management or related field.
  • Entry-level graduates may be considered for the role.
  • Proficient in written and spoken English. A second language may be required, depending on the supplier base.
  • Good knowledge of MS Office: Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Word, Teams.
  • Team worker.

Preferred Qualifications:


  • Familiarity with ERP systems, e.g., SAP, Oracle, JDE, AS400.
  • Strong knowledge of MS Office: Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook & TEAMS.
  • Experience in supporting supplier relationship management.
  • Experience in a regulated industry is a plus.
  • Ability to support communication and present information to suppliers, team members, and management under direction.
  • Ability to assist in building relationships across functions and levels internally and externally.
  • Understanding of continuous improvement methodologies & cost reduction methodologies.
