Typical Duties
- Develops, implements, and administers environmental, health and safety policies and programs, developing procedures (chemical safety, ergonomics, illness and injury prevention, and building safety) used throughout the site that are compliant with federal, state, and local environmental, health, and safety regulations and promote environmental protection and a healthy and safe facility for employees and visitors to meet the company's business requirements and safeguard surrounding communities.
- Develops and oversees company training programs for employees in areas such as compliance training, safe handling of hazardous waste or bio-waste (chemical, radioactive, and/or medical) material handling and removal, emergency response, industrial hygiene and occupational/industrial safety.
- Maintains safety equipment inventory, performs periodic lab/plant/office safety inspections, audits, and environmental impact studies by sampling and testing for potential environmental or safety concerns, and recommends corrective action where environmental health and safety hazards exist.
- Investigates incidents or accidents and gathers and analyzes statistics by preparing accident reports in accordance with applicable regulatory requirements and serves as the point of contact for external agencies including emergency response personnel.
- Interprets principles, theories, and concepts of a scientific specialty, and regulatory requirements, on a broad basis.
