Our client U.S.-based enterprise IT services company with national reach is seeking a detail-oriented Billing Specialist to manage the accurate and timely billing of complex customer orders. This role ensures that once orders have passed billing readiness validation (working with the Billing Readiness M, they are translated into precise, compliant, and customer-ready invoices.

The complexity of this role includes as-a-service (XaaS) billing models, multi-element solutions, and adherence to State of California contract compliance requirements, ensuring invoices support accurate reporting, auditability, and regulatory standards. The ideal candidate combines strong analytical skills with billing execution expertise to minimize errors, disputes, and rework while maintaining strict compliance.

Key Responsibilities
Perform final validation of billing-ready orders prior to invoice generation 
Translate validated orders, contracts, and amendments into accurate, compliant customer invoices 
Ensure pricing, billing terms, schedules, and revenue attributes are correctly applied in invoicing 
Generate and distribute invoices aligned to contractual terms, including subscription, usage-based, and milestone billing models 
Ensure compliance with State of California contract requirements, supporting accurate reporting, audit readiness, and traceability 
Validate that product configurations, SKUs, usage, and entitlements are correctly represented on invoices 
Monitor and resolve invoice discrepancies, exceptions, and customer-facing issues 
Partner cross-functionally with Sales, Operations, Finance, and Customer Success to resolve billing questions and discrepancies 
Maintain compliance with billing policies, controls, and audit requirements 
Track and report on billing accuracy metrics, invoice cycle times, and error/rework trends 
Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance invoice quality, clarity, and efficiency

Qualifications
3+ years of experience in billing operations, invoicing, or revenue operations, preferably in a technology or services environment 
Strong understanding of as-a-service (XaaS) billing models, including subscription and usage-based structures 
Experience working with government or public sector contracts, preferably with State of California compliance requirements 
Strong understanding of contracts, pricing models, and billing structures 
Experience generating invoices within ERP or billing systems (e.g., NetSuite, Salesforce, SAP, or similar) 
High attention to detail with strong analytical and problem-solving skills 
Ability to manage complex, high-volume billing scenarios with accuracy 
Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills 
Proficiency in Excel or data analysis tools

Familiarity with revenue recognition standards (ASC 606)
