Compensation Range: $55.00 - $65.00 per hour

We are looking for a Signaling Design Specialist Designer - Sr. for our client in North York. 
This is a hybrid 6-month contract.


Key Accountabilities

Technical:
  • Converts Customer (internal and/or external) requirements into conceptual designs and prepares associated documentation by performing operational analyses, simulations and technical trade-off studies evaluating alternative design configurations and functional features.
  • Similarly creates new concepts or modifies existing concepts to fulfil customer requirements.
  • Performs technical/engineering tasks to define, application databases for software subsystems.  Analysis and simulations are performed as necessary to identify design feasibility & driving requirements.
  • Prepares specialized signaling design skills, covering one or more of the following:
    • Signaling Principles
    • Block design
    • Interlocking control tables
    • Safe braking model
    • Performance analysis and Headway simulations
    • Application database design
  • Prepares and supports bids and proposals, including customer requirements compliance assessment, gap analysis, architecture design, simulation, trade-off of key features, estimation, etc.
  • Presents technical design and reports to customers and/or other engineering/management groups in clear, complete, concise and non-ambiguous terms.
  • Defines or proposes updates of processes and standards covering the work and its products based on the knowledge of systems engineering and/or his technical specialty.
  • Operational design limits are evaluated and defined; performance analyses and simulations are developed & performed to support the above.
  • Ensure the signaling design is implemented in accordance with applicable standards and signaling principles.
  • Interface and build strong working relationships with Software, Hardware and IVVQ groups to ensure timely analysis and resolution of in-house and field test issue.

Management (LR8) Nice to have:
  • Supervises contractors and other systems specialists, by defining their work, coaching them on how and what to prepare, monitoring their progress and directing them on priorities.
  • Proposes work package estimates and descriptions based on the knowledge of the work and project requirements.
  • Prepare and deliver regular status reports for internal and external stakeholders
  • Identify and implement process improvement initiatives
  • Safety:
  • Promote a safety culture where product safety is paramount
  • Ensure that safety is built into the design by early identification and resolution of safety related defects

Qualifications:
  • University degree in Computer sciences, Engineering or a closely related field. 
  • Experience: 
  • minimum 3+ years relevant experience in development
  • Skills of software-based System applications. 
  • Technical/Specialized Knowledge: 
  • Strong application (automated train control systems) domain knowledge & 
  • Knowledge of systems engineering principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of modern software engineering practices, methods and tools.
  • Knowledge of systems development life cycle.
  • Excellent technical writing and communication skills. Good marketing and presentation skills.  Ability to sell/defend product to customers with differing levels of knowledge about automated systems.
  • Strong planning and organizational skills. 
  • Experience in using DOORS, Melody advance, etc.
  • Rail Signaling knowledge (desirable). 
  • Certifications: P. Eng license is desirable

The indicated pay range for this position is a good-faith estimate based on the qualifications necessary for the position, including experience, training, and other considerations permitted by law. Additionally, it is emphasized that the pay band mentioned herein is the one established by the client company. Factors that may be used when making an offer may include a candidate’s skills, experience and geographic location, the expected quality and quantity of work. Most candidates will start at the bottom half of the pay range, with the upper end reserved for candidates with extensive experience and skills and who live in geographic markets commanding a higher starting pay.
