Compensation Range: $64–$71 per hour
Our client, a global leader in railway and transportation manufacturing, seeks to hire a Senior Electrical Hardware Designer.
This role supports the electrical hardware design of new or revised products, equipment, and installations, applying established engineering principles to meet requirements. Work involves designs of moderate to high complexity.
Responsibilities:
• Design new or revised products, equipment, and installations using established engineering processes to meet customer and railway requirements
• Serve as Work Package Manager when required
• Contribute to a collaborative team environment while maintaining professionalism
• Mentor and support junior team members
• Follow directions and work instructions, using sound judgment in assigned work
• Present pros and cons for various technical approaches
• Track progress on assigned tasks and verify accuracy of completed work
• Ensure quality and integrity of hardware designs and related documentation
• Conduct technical reviews and ensure changes align with objectives
• Generate accurate, supportable estimates for current and new technologies
• Support bids by defining technical solutions and reviewing materials lists
• Interpret, identify, and document requirements within budget and schedule constraints
• Ensure safety and quality of hardware products while reducing deployment costs
• Prepare specifications for hardware and/or software components
• Develop appropriate design architectures
• Review applicable specifications, standards, and rules, ensuring required actions are taken
• Implement designs using good engineering practices and applicable standards
Qualifications:
• 6+ years of industry experience, including:
– Cabling
– Grounding techniques
– Surge protection
– Electrical engineering principles
– Power circuit design
– Electronic circuits including microprocessors
– Telecommunications circuits
– Engineering tools (AutoCAD, multimeter, oscilloscope, protocol analyzers)
• Strong verbal communication skills
• Proven track record in designing complex electrical or electronics products
• Strong writing skills for clear, concise documentation
• Proficient and current in the technologies of the discipline
Preferred Skills:
• Minimum 8 years of experience in the railway signaling industry
• Proven experience in designing, installing, and testing communication‑based train control onboard equipment
• Ability to formulate or contribute to new designs
• Ability to devise and run tests, verify functionality, and solve problems
• Excellent understanding of train interfaces and operations
• Familiarity with train maintenance, components, subsystems, and designs from various manufacturers
• Ability to understand, read, and design train interface electrical schematics
• Deep understanding of CENELEC and AREMA railway standards for onboard equipment
• Experience performing train surveys
• PEO certification
Education:
• Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, or equivalent
Special Position Requirements:
• Schedule: Monday–Friday, 40 hours per week
• Physical Environment: Office environment
• Travel: Occasional travel to customers or providers
