Our client, a global leader in railway and transportation manufacturing, seeks to hire a Senior Hardware Compliance Designer.
Job Description:
The successful candidate will assist in the hardware qualification, certification, and verification activities of new or revised products, and lead associated reports to customer acceptance. This work involves applying established engineering principles to meet requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
• Conduct electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) tests on electronic devices designed for railway signaling systems according to industry standards
• Conduct environmental qualification tests such as temperature, humidity, shock, and vibration on railway signaling electronic devices
• Demonstrate familiarity with railway (or similar industry) EMC and environmental standards, including EN 61000 series, EN 50121 series, EN 50125, EN 50155, FCC, AREMA, MIL standards, etc.
• Apply knowledge of grounding, shielding, surge protection, and other EMC concepts
• Operate hardware test equipment and simulators used in hardware qualification testing
• Participate in troubleshooting activities related to EMC tests and provide measurements and technical details to the design team
• Prepare EMC documentation including EMC Control Plans, EMC Compatibility Studies, EMC Hazard Analyses, and EMC Test Reports, and drive them to customer acceptance
• Prepare hardware environmental qualification plans and reports, understanding requirement impacts and providing feedback on approaches
• Lead subcontractors performing EMC site measurements in line with customer requirements
• Participate in ISA committee audits on EMC and environmental requirements
• Familiarity with fire, smoke, and toxicity standards (EN 45545, NFPA 130) is an asset
• Work with requirements management tools such as DOORS or Polarion, following CENELEC verification processes
• Work collaboratively in a team environment while maintaining professionalism
• Support development of junior team members
Required Skills and Experience:

• 6 to 10+ years of experience in the railway signaling industry working with international standards
• In‑depth knowledge of EMC principles affecting emission and immunity performance of electronic circuits
• Proficiency in performing EMC analyses and assessing design changes
• Ability to devise and run tests, verify functionality, and identify/solve problems
• Ability to operate complex EMC measurement tools in lab and field environments
• Knowledge of radio certification requirements (FCC, Industry Canada, ETSI) and relevant safety standards
• Familiarity with CE certification processes and associated European directives
• Ability to review specifications, standards, and rules and ensure appropriate actions are taken
• Interest in staying current with discipline‑related technologies
• Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation
