Are you a seasoned hardware design expert with deep railway signaling experience? Weβre hiring a HW Application Design β Technical Specialist to support a leading global rail technology and signaling organization delivering mission-critical transit solutions across North America.
This role is ideal for a subject matter expert who thrives on solving complex engineering challenges, leading technical decisions, and supporting large-scale transit infrastructure projects in both greenfield and brownfield environments.
Produce complex hardware application designs, bookwirings, and equipment designs aligned with railway signaling engineering principles.
Serve as a technical authority across multiple projects and act as a key liaison with customers.
Interpret and author traceable requirements from high-level customer system designs down to detailed engineering outputs.
Develop technical design specifications, Scope of Works (SoWs), and RFQs.
Ensure compliance with industry standards such as CENELEC and AREMA.
Apply strong knowledge of:
SelTrac signal plans and radio equipment
Railway infrastructure, trackside assets, and equipment room deployments
Use CAD tools such as MicroStation and AutoCAD to deliver accurate, high-quality designs.
Maximize reuse of existing product designs and select optimal design approaches.
Prepare hardware and/or software component specifications.
Act as Work Package Manager when required, leading a team of 1β5 designers.
Track progress, timelines, budgets, and deliverables to ensure on-time, on-budget execution.
Generate accurate estimates for both established and emerging departmental technologies.
Ensure deliverables are completed according to schedule and all technical requirements.
Work with configuration management tools and structured change control processes.
Post-secondary Technologist diploma or Degree in Electrical or Electronics Engineering.
10β12 years of related railway or signaling hardware design experience.
Advanced logical reasoning and problem-solving skills.
Strong knowledge of railway signaling principles and deployment practices.
Proficiency in:
MicroStation / AutoCAD
SAP (Bills of Materials)
Configuration Management tools
Change Control systems (e.g., ClearQuest)
Microsoft Office Suite
Familiarity with structured engineering processes and competency licensing systems.
