Compensation Range: $95 – $120 per hour
Our top financial client is seeking an SAP Functional Lead. The Functional Lead is responsible for proposing and delivering functional solutions for implemented SAP modules and acting as a subject‑matter expert (SME) for future implementations. The role collaborates with Project Management, Technology, and business stakeholders to ensure high‑quality delivery aligned with requirements.
Responsibilities
• Manage SAP platform enhancements (not daily production fixes) in alignment with policies
• Gather, analyze, and document business requirements
• Partner with Technology to design and validate functional and technical solutions
• Evaluate solution options, performing pros/cons analysis and making recommendations
• Create or review functional specifications for SAP changes and enhancements
• Act as the main liaison between Business and Technology teams
• Promote SAP platform usage with senior leaders, business owners, and third‑party partners
• Build and maintain vendor and third‑party relationships
• Communicate effectively to manage expectations and negotiate solution outcomes
• Provide project updates and contribute to business case development
• Analyze impacts, risks, and propose mitigation actions
• Support multiple concurrent projects and enhancement initiatives
• Engage with business stakeholders, Technology, consulting partners, and contingent workers
• Collaborate with Finance teams and LOB leadership (senior to executive)
• Work with key corporate functions: Technology, Legal, Compliance, Privacy, Internal Audit
• Coordinate with external suppliers delivering SAP and related solutions
Qualifications
• 10–15 years of experience in project environments or equivalent
• Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills
• Ability to simplify complex information for senior management
• Strong organizational and multi‑project management skills
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving capability
• Experience with systems development lifecycle and testing lifecycle
• Ability to influence cross‑functional decision‑making
• Adaptability in fast‑paced, changing environments
SAP Functional & Technical Expertise
• At least one end‑to‑end implementation and one production support project
• Strong functional knowledge of SAP modules, specifically:
– S/4HANA Finance (GL, AR)
– Chart of Accounts data mapping & multi‑GAAP
– SAP Group Reporting (close & consolidation)
– Intercompany eliminations
– SAC reporting with CDS views
– SAP MDG (configuration, workflow, master data modeling)
– Fiori MDG UI
– Data load configuration
– Average Daily Balance, multi‑currency accounting
– Financial services subledgers (FPSL, FCL)
– Integration with upstream/downstream non‑SAP systems
– SAP SDI data mapping
– Understanding of enterprise data structures in S/4HANA Finance
• ABAP enhancements, BRF+, BW — hands‑on experience is an asset
• Understanding of SAP HANA DB concepts, SQL, and data transformation
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
• Preferred: MS Project, Teams, SharePoint
• Knowledge of technology infrastructure is an asset
• Familiarity with EDF (Enterprise Delivery Framework)
• Experience with FPSL and FCL
