Our client, a leading global manufacturer of outdoor living and flooring products, is seeking a Material Sourcing Specialist to oversee business processes, manage vendor relationships, and strategize procurement, to meet production demands efficiently.


Responsibilities:

  • Develop strategies for assigned commodities to achieve material cost savings targets through detailed spend analysis, consolidation, and localization opportunities.
  • Aggressively pursue the commodity strategy to ensure a competitive advantage and product cost leadership.
  • Ensure the commodity strategy evolves to support changing market conditions and risk considerations (e.g., CUSMA, Brexit).
  • Ensure the execution of key projects through close collaboration with cross-functional teams.
  • Participate in regular purchasing team meetings, sharing updates on KPIs, action plans, or continuous improvement ideas.
  • Define strategic suppliers within assigned commodities based on quality, delivery and cost, fostering strong relationships through regular contact and on-site visits. 
  • Negotiate global supply agreements with key suppliers, including LTAs, rebates, etc.
  • Develop should-cost models by product family, monitor supply markets for pricing, trends, capacities, and new developments.
  • Identify potential new suppliers, assess capabilities, maintain Approved Vendor Lists (AVL), and support Supplier Development on audits/VAVE activities.
  • Support new customer projects through timely quote submission to NPI/AQP teams, assessing detailed cost breakdowns and supplier recommendations.
  • Ensure recommended supplier selection aligns with the strategic plan, negotiate commercial terms, and address technical aspects to meet targets.
  • Visit suppliers as needed to evaluate cost, quality, efficiency, overall performance, and capabilities. Develop strategic relationships with customers/buyers to drive “win-win” partnerships. Maximize relationships with key retail and wholesale partners and build relationships with all key stakeholders at the account level. 

Qualifications:

  • Diploma or certification in Quality Compliance (an academic background in business, supply chain management, or a related field would be beneficial)
  • Preferred certifications such as PMAC (Purchasing Management Association of Canada) or CPIM (Certified in Production and Inventory Management) would be advantageous. 
  • Ability to research, analyze, and forecast buying trends, market conditions, and industry developments. Experience in developing and implementing commodity strategies based on market analysis.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in managing supplier relationships, including identifying strategic suppliers, conducting supplier assessments, and fostering strong partnerships. 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to interact effectively with vendors, suppliers, and internal stakeholders (ability to write complex reports and correspondence in English, ability to speak effectively in front of groups, and exceptional presentation skills).
  • Ability to negotiate and communicate commercial terms, technical aspects, and strategies with suppliers. 
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities to assess supply chain performance, cost analysis, and process improvements.
  • ISO Compliance: Understanding of ISO purchasing and receiving standards, ensuring adherence to compliance requirements.
  • Proficiency in using ERP software and intermediate working knowledge of tools like Excel for data analysis and reporting.
  • Technical acumen to manage databases, conduct cost modeling, and monitor supply markets effectively.
  • Ability to adapt to changing market conditions, evolving strategies, and risk considerations (e.g., CUSMA, Brexit).
  • Strategic thinking to develop, execute, and evolve commodity strategies aligned with organizational goals.
