Position Overview
Our client, one of the top five banks in Toronto, is seeking a Tax Specialist. This role is responsible for the accurate and timely completion and filing of tax returns for complex Estate and Trust accounts. The Tax Specialist performs a variety of income tax compliance, planning, and administrative functions.
Key Responsibilities
How You’ll Succeed
- Gather required information from clients and internal/external sources to prepare and file income tax returns
- Perform calculations, complete schedules, and organize information for complex returns
- Prepare personal, estate, and trust income tax returns and schedules with accuracy
- Identify post‑mortem and other tax‑planning opportunities
- Serve as a technical tax resource to the Estates & Trusts Administration (ETA) team
- Review assessment notices and prepare adjustment requests, objection notices, and Clearance Certificate requests
- Correspond with the CRA to provide requested information
- Maintain high standards for quality, responsiveness, and timeliness
- Collaborate with trust staff, external tax professionals, and clients to ensure timely filing and effective resolution of tax issues
- Participate in special projects as assigned
- Manage and train junior staff
- Review complex returns such as Graduated Rate Estates (GREs), terminal T1 returns, and rights‑or‑things filings
- Take ownership of assigned projects with limited supervision
Must‑Have Requirements
- 3+ years of experience in an accounting or tax‑related role
- Familiarity with Graduated Rate Estates (GREs)
- Post‑secondary degree in accounting or equivalent
- Experience preparing:
- T1 personal returns
- T1 terminal (final) returns
- T3 trust and estate returns
- Experience using tax preparation software
