Position Summary:
The Engineering Associate Technician provides technical support to engineers and scientists by performing a variety of hands-on technical tasks within a controlled laboratory and/or engineering environment. The role involves executing routine and non-routine tests, developing technical documentation, and supporting root cause analysis activities.
This position operates within a well-defined technical specialty or skilled trade function, following established procedures, guidelines, and instructions. The role requires basic discipline knowledge, strong attention to detail, and the ability to make simple, rule-based decisions in straightforward situations.
This is an entry-level role, typically requiring no prior experience beyond technical education or equivalent exposure.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide technical support to engineers and scientists on assigned tasks and projects
- Execute routine and non-routine laboratory and engineering tests with precision and attention to detail
- Perform fine motor skill tasks requiring accurate hand-eye coordination and careful handling of components and equipment
- Test prototypes according to engineering instructions and document all results accurately
- Develop and maintain proficiency in LIMS (Laboratory Information Management System) for electronic test management
- Ensure all testing is conducted using the most current validated methods, processes, and specifications
- Complete documentation in compliance with GLP (Good Laboratory Practice) and Quality System (QS) requirements
- Conduct technical evaluations of events to determine root cause and support corrective action recommendations
- Communicate assignment progress and status updates to project engineers
- Train peers or new personnel on product processes and procedures as needed
- Follow detailed procedures, instructions, and established guidelines in all tasks
Typical Day-to-Day Activities
A typical day in this role may include:
- Executing assigned laboratory or engineering tests based on engineer-provided instructions
- Handling and operating automated equipment or robotic systems
- Recording and validating test data in LIMS and ensuring documentation accuracy
- Reviewing test outcomes and flagging deviations or issues for engineer review
- Participating in basic troubleshooting or root cause analysis under supervision
- Coordinating with internal engineers to provide updates on test progress or results
- Supporting continuous improvement by following updated procedures and validated processes
Must-Have Qualifications:
- Two-year technical degree (Associate Degree, Certificate) or equivalent experience
- Good analytical and problem-solving skills
- Strong communication skills
- High level of computer proficiency with ability to quickly learn complex systems (LIMS experience is a plus)
- Hands-on experience operating automated equipment or robotic systems
Nice-to-Have Qualifications:
- 2+ years of technical work experience in medical device development (preferred)
