We are seeking a senior Backend Architect / Principal Backend Engineer with deep experience in SAP Commerce Cloud, microservices, and cloud‑native architectures. This role will focus on designing, implementing, and operating scalable, secure backend platforms supporting enterprise eCommerce ecosystems.

Key Responsibilities

Backend Architecture & Platform Design
• Design and implement backend architectural artifacts at both platform and implementation levels.
• Architect systems across PIM, ERP, Commerce, CMS, Marketing platforms and their integrations.
• Define and evolve secure, cloud‑native, scalable, and high‑performance backend services.

Engineering Standards & Governance
• Contribute to and maintain Architecture Decision Records (ADRs).
• Enable teams to adhere to Backend Engineering Policies, Procedures, and Standards.
• Provide technology consultancy and stack selection aligned with scalability, performance, security, and compliance requirements.

Operations & Reliability
• Support backend operational excellence across the platform.
• Define and implement reliability, performance, and operational best practices.

Leadership & Collaboration
• Drive best‑in‑class backend strategies that deliver exceptional customer outcomes.
• Partner across disciplines and collaborate with other Principal Engineers.
• Evangelize backend best practices across the engineering organization.
• Lead knowledge transfer, mentoring, and training initiatives.

Essential Skills & Experience
eCommerce & Platforms
• Extensive enterprise eCommerce experience with up‑to‑date industry capabilities.
• Hands‑on experience with major eCommerce platforms.

Backend Technologies
• Expert knowledge of backend systems and data stores.
• Strong advocate for quality engineering practices.

Cloud & Infrastructure
• Proficiency in one or more cloud platforms (AWS preferred).
• Deep understanding of cloud‑native architectures.

Architecture & Integration
• Strong applied knowledge of integration patterns, APIs, and distributed systems.
• Experience with enterprise‑scale backend integrations.

Observability & Security
• Experience with APM, monitoring, and observability tools.
• Strong understanding of authentication and authorization best practices.

Programming & Tooling
• Strong programming experience in modern backend languages.
• Familiarity with frameworks, tooling, and architecture diagramming tools.

Education
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
• Minimum 7+ years of relevant professional experience.

The indicated pay range for this position is a good‑faith estimate based on the qualifications necessary for the position, including experience, training, and other considerations permitted by law. Most candidates will start in the lower half of the pay range, with the upper end reserved for candidates with extensive experience and skills and who live in geographic markets commanding a higher starting pay.
