Payroll Specialist

Position Type: Full-time/Permanent

Location: Burnaby, BC (Hybrid)

Compensation: $75,000 to $85,000/annually (salary to commensurate with experience) + Vacation + Benefits + RRSP

We’re working with a leading Canadian food manufacturer to find a Payroll Specialist to join their team. Reporting to the Payroll Manager, this role is vital in ensuring employees are paid accurately and on time, while maintaining compliance and supporting payroll system processes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Process payroll for union and non-union employees, ensuring accuracy and adherence to company policies and collective agreements.
  • Manage employee benefits data, including new enrollments, changes, and terminations, while ensuring proper deductions are made.
  • Maintain payroll systems and records to reflect updates such as new hires, terminations, salary adjustments, or changes to collective agreements.
  • Ensure timely and accurate documentation related to payroll, taxes, benefits, and deductions.
  • Stay current and ensure compliance with federal and provincial payroll legislation, including all filing and reporting requirements.
  • Prepare and support month-end, year-end, and audit-related payroll reports.
  • Investigate and resolve payroll issues and respond to employee inquiries in a timely and professional manner.
  • Provide training and support on payroll systems and policies to internal stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to enhance and streamline payroll processes.

Requirements:

  • 4+ years of Canadian payroll and accounting experience, ideally in a unionized environment.
  • 3+ years working with complex payroll/HRIS systems (ADP WorkforceNow strongly preferred).
  • Strong Excel skills (VLOOKUPs, formulas, pivot tables, charts).
  • Diploma or post-secondary education in Accounting, Business, or a related field.
  • PCP (Payroll Compliance Practitioner) designation is considered an asset.
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) with a high level of professionalism.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, organizational skills, and a strong sense of confidentiality.
