Job Title: Staff Engineer – Supplier Quality Engineering (Individual Contributor)
Location: Boston, Massachusetts (Hybrid)
Job Type: 1-Year Contract (Possibility of Extension)
Pay Rate: $68.84 – $79.71 per hour
Overview
Our client is seeking a highly experienced Staff Engineer in Supplier Quality Engineering to join their team as an individual contributor. This role is ideal for a seasoned technical expert with deep experience in supplier quality, procurement, and engineering-driven sourcing. You will play a critical role in ensuring supplier performance, quality compliance, and cost optimization while supporting the procurement of complex technical products and systems.
Responsibilities
Supplier Quality & Procurement Support
- Negotiate favorable terms, pricing, volume discounts, and long-term agreements with suppliers
- Prepare and process requisitions and purchase orders for technical equipment, custom-engineered products, systems, and components
- Evaluate supplier capabilities, performance, and quality standards to ensure alignment with business requirements
Supplier Performance & Issue Resolution
- Review purchase orders and contracts to ensure compliance with company policies and quality standards
- Address supplier-related issues including defects, delivery delays, and quality concerns
- Lead discussions with suppliers to resolve issues, negotiate corrective actions, and secure refunds or concessions where applicable
Market & Technology Insight
- Maintain strong awareness of industry trends, supplier technologies, and market dynamics
- Analyze cost trends and supplier roadmaps to support strategic sourcing decisions
- Provide recommendations to improve supplier selection and long-term partnerships
Technical Expertise & Problem Solving
- Serve as a subject matter expert in supplier quality engineering within the organization
- Perform in-depth analysis and apply advanced problem-solving techniques to address complex engineering and supply chain challenges
- Develop innovative solutions by evaluating multiple technical and business alternatives
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or advanced degree in Engineering or a related technical field
- Equivalent practical experience may be considered
- Minimum 10+ years of experience in supplier quality engineering, procurement, or a related technical discipline
- Proven experience working with suppliers of complex engineered products or systems
- Strong understanding of supplier quality processes, procurement strategies, and contract management
- Experience evaluating supplier performance and resolving quality and delivery issues
- Ability to analyze technical requirements and align them with supplier capabilities
