We are seeking a Mechatronics Engineer with a strong background in industrial automation and electromechanical systems to join a Technical Operations (Tech Ops) team in Bedford, Massachusetts. The successful candidate will design, develop, and improve the tools, fixtures, automation, and processes used to commission and test complex capital equipment. This role involves creating scalable and repeatable commissioning and test strategies to be deployed by technicians or contract manufacturers, ensuring a smooth handoff and robust production readiness. Responsibilities are focused on production systems between first power-up and shipping from the contract manufacturer.

Responsibilities:
  • Design and document commissioning and functional test processes, test fixtures, and automated tools to enable technician-led machine commissioning.
  • Develop and refine work instructions, process documentation, and validation plans for new and existing systems.
  • Automate and streamline commissioning tasks, including configuration of motors, sensors, PLCs, network switches, and other powered devices.
  • Analyze, procure, and maintain equipment and software used to automate testing and diagnostics.
  • Plan resources and schedules required for commissioning and test process development and transfer to contract manufacturers.
  • Interface with design, quality, and production teams to define strategies aligned with manufacturing constraints and field requirements.
  • Support the training of technicians and CM partners on new commissioning and test tools and procedures.
  • Support Quality Engineering with Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) activities.
  • Provide feedback and make suggestions to Engineering on Design for Testability (DFT) and Design for Manufacturability (DFM) principles early in product design.
  • Coordinate with suppliers and partners to ensure successful hand-off and operational readiness of systems prior to shipment.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, or Robotics discipline.
  • 3-7+ years of experience in robotics, automation, or electromechanical systems.
  • Strong systems-thinking mindset with ability to balance design complexity, testability, and manufacturability.
  • Proficiency with test instrumentation and tools (e.g., Multimeter, Oscilloscope, Logic Analyzer).
  • Authorized to legally work in the United States.
